Inspired by traditional Japanese workwear and crafted with the expertise of Kusakura, a renowned judo-gi manufacturer, the Sashiko Cardigan brings the strength, texture, and craftsmanship of authentic Japanese sashiko fabric into modern everyday wear.

The collar is designed using the same construction concept as a traditional judo-gi collar. Careful attention has been paid to the thickness of the collar and the positioning of the buttonholes, creating a natural, balanced appearance whether the cardigan is worn open or buttoned.

The slightly longer silhouette is inspired by the proportions of a judo-gi, giving the cardigan a distinctive presence while remaining easy to coordinate with everyday outfits. The longer length also allows for generously sized pockets, offering plenty of room for essentials such as a smartphone.

The cuffs feature a unique half-ribbed construction. By combining flexible ribbed fabric with sturdy sashiko fabric, the sleeves can be comfortably rolled up while maintaining a refined silhouette. The slightly narrower sleeves and longer ribbed cuffs create a modern balance that distinguishes the cardigan from traditional judo-gi and haori styles.

Buttons add a subtle accent to the design. Because of the thickness and tightly woven structure of the sashiko fabric, each buttonhole requires specialised craftsmanship, while every button is carefully sewn on by hand.

Kusakura's signature logo patch is discreetly placed near the bottom of the right pocket, representing the tradition, craftsmanship, and quality behind every piece.

Woven using Kusakura's own sashiko fabric, the material combines exceptional durability with a pleasantly textured surface. Despite its strong construction, the fabric remains comfortable against the skin and gradually becomes softer and more familiar with continued wear.

Care Instructions

Due to the characteristics of sashiko fabric, the surface may catch or snag on sharp objects, so please handle with care.

Dark-colored fabric may bleed or transfer color if left wet for an extended period. Please avoid washing with light-colored garments.

Do not tumble dry.

The fabric is pre-washed before sewing to help reduce shrinkage; however, slight shrinkage may still occur after washing at home.
